We're seeking a new Musical Director from January 2023.
We are looking to recruit a successor to Jonathan Lee, who has been Musical Director since the choir’s foundation in 2014. Jon is moving away from Hertfordshire in December to begin a new job in the south.
The Castle Choir is an unauditioned community choir of 35–40 members based in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. Most choir members are readers of music notation. We are rehearsed from the piano during term-time on Wednesday evenings (8–9.30 p.m.) at Thomas Coram School in Berkhamsted.
The choir typically performs three concerts a year in December, March/April and June/July. Over the years, we have enjoyed singing an incredibly varied repertoire, including classical, traditional, jazz, swing, contemporary and world music, both secular and sacred, occasionally in different languages. Castle Choir values this as our key differentiator to the other local choirs.
The Castle Choir is not a choral society and looks forward to the new Musical Director bringing a broad knowledge of genres and styles of vocal music so the choir can flourish. In turn, the Musical Director will be supported by the Choir Manager and Choir Finance Manager, who will work with you to develop each term’s programme, manage concert arrangements and ensure the choir runs smoothly.
